Dena Marie Blauvelt
Since relocating to Southwest Florida from Chicagoland, Dena Marie Blauvelt (previously Dena Galyean) seems to have a penchant for landing fascinating roles. Among her most recent – and memorable – are Susan B. Anthony in Theatre Conspiracy’s production of The Agitators, Nora Helmer in Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll House (also for Theatre Conspiracy) and Stella Kowalski in The Studio Players’ production of Tennessee William’s A Streetcar Named Desire at the Golden Gate Community Center.
Other credits include Elizabeth in Laundry and Bourbon on the Alliance’s GreenMarket stage, A Christmas Carol – A Live Radio Play on the Off Broadway Palm (multiple roles), 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche (Theatre Conspiracy at the Alliance), Nurse Kelly in Harvey (Theatre Conspiracy at the Alliance), Murder on the 19th Hole (Broadway Palm), Savannah Sprunt Fairchild Honeycutt in Off-Broadway Palm’s Mama Won’t Fly, Sylvie in Off-Broadway Palm’s The Odd Couple: Female Version, Roz in CFABS Community Players’ production of Ken Ludwig’s Moon Over Buffalo, the sister of a priest who finds himself in a duel with Lucifer for his very soul in Theatre Conspiracy’s production of Noli Timere, Alithea in The Country Wife (Theatre Conspiracy at the Alliance), Elaine Navazio in Last of the Red Hot Lovers at the Broadway Palm Off-Broadway, the sexually-charged preacher’s daughter Elaine Harper in the CFABS Players’ Arsenic and Old Lace, the indignant, conflicted and quietly resigned victim of Santa’s sexual harassment and assault, Vixen, in Lab Theater’s 2015 Christmas hit, The Eight: Reindeer Monologues and Louise in Lab Theater’s 2015 summer stock production of Steve Martin’s The Underpants. She also played Maryann in Kristy Thomas’ Hands Up for Theatre Conspiracy at the Alliance’s virtual COVID-19 production of The Best Seats in Your House on June 11, 2020.
Other credits include Jane Tate in It Runs in the Family (at Stray Dog Theater in Tinley Park, Illinois), Arkadina in The Seagull and Eleanor in The Middle Ages (at Moraine Valley in Palos Hills, Illinois), which earned her an Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship nomination.
Dena has also been an understudy on the Seminole Gulf Railway Murder Mystery Train and reigned for a year as Matlacha’s Mermaid Queen.
She appears in the role of homicidal clown Popo for the Alliance in Adam Szymkowic’s Clown Bar.
